Founders after an exit

Which coaching helps a founder after a business exit?

Coaching that treats the exit as a change of identity, not only a liquidity event: who you are without the company, what the wealth is for, and how your family fits the next chapter. Angelina Carleton, Co-Active trained coach and legacy planner at Legacy Planning© in Beverly Hills, coaches founders through this in six or twelve month engagements that begin with a 90-Minute Legacy Calibration.

Why the time after the sale is hard

The people she serves are expected to have it all together, which is exactly why the friction goes unaddressed. After an exit it tends to show up in four ways:

  • Unseen blind spots in a high-pressure life
  • A disconnect between wealth and purpose
  • Communication gaps across perspectives and generations
  • Isolation at the top

What Co-Active coaching brings

Co-Active coaching comes from the Co-Active Training Institute, where coach and client work as partners and the client's own agenda leads. Angelina trained there in Level 3 listening, the deepest of the levels taught, which attends to what sits under the words as well as the words themselves. She has honed it over 26 years of work in Greater Los Angeles.

What the coaching covers

  • Identity after a business exit
  • A plan for your life, lifestyle and purpose, beyond the transaction
  • Aligning the wealth with purpose
  • Communication with your spouse, children and the next generation
  • Becoming the founder who coaches the heirs rather than controls them
  • A philanthropic mission that the family can share

How the work runs

Every engagement follows the same three steps. Assess: the Wealth Continuum Assessment™ shows where the family stands today, its strengths, risks and opportunities. Clarify: values, purpose, stewardship and governance, made clear and shared across the family. Implement: a practical roadmap for wealth continuity, family governance and success across generations.

It begins with a 90-Minute Legacy Calibration, one private session online ($1,500), for the plan you have or the one you have not started yet. Clients then commit to six or twelve months of coaching. The Legacy Blueprint Experience gives six months to define, develop and carry out a family's legacy plan (from $50,000), and principals and family offices can retain her for ongoing private advisory, by proposal.
